Legal Issues

Educational resources are available on the web and through governmental agencies to assist you with the following legal issues:

  • Wills, ethical wills, living wills, and divorce procedures
  • Legal advice on health, housing, employment, and other issues
  • Information about your legal rights

The U.S. Administration on Aging provides an extensive list with links to various legal resources for older adults.

The Legal Services Corporation provides free and low cost legal services to low-income Americans. In addition, many states have ombudsman services that will act as your advocate.

You may be able to handle some matters not involving substantial amounts of money or property without the aid of a lawyer. If you do need a lawyer, choose one who is established and charges reasonable rates. Make sure you ask for references and follow through on checking them out.
