Outdoor Activities

"The clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness."

John Muir, John of the Mountains

Humans seem to have an inherent urge for contact with nature. And you have as wide a choice of activities as your imagination can dream up.

Discover the best places to ski, take a mountain-bike tour, hike into the scenic beauty of the mountains, or find your favorite lake and fish away a dream-filled day. Are you stumped for ideas about what activities are available? Try these activities: biking, birding, camping, caving, climbing, driving, fishing, hiking and backpacking, horseback riding, hunting, paddling, skiing and other snow sports, snorkeling and scuba diving, or wildlife viewing.

The federal government and states have set aside land for our enjoyment. Use the federal web sites Recreation.gov or NPS.gov (National Park Service) to find out the possibilities. Or contact the office in your state that manages its parks. Go ahead; get off the couch and enjoy the world outside your door.

If you are thinking about an adventure trip using an outfitter, read this tip sheet.
