Taking Health Improvement to Scale
by Pam Hayle April 02, 2015
The Vital Aging Network’s Wellness 50 + program is a very exciting part of VAN’s work and continues to energize its participants and leaders. It is about health improvement within communities, focused on real change and what matters most to the individuals of that community.
I recently read about the “100 Million Healthier Lives” coalition. It reinforced for me that the goals of Wellness 50+ are in line with taking health improvement in America to scale. The “100 Million Healthier Lives” coalition is looking for exponential improvement not incremental change in health. They use the term “escape velocity”—the speed needed to break forth from the gravitational forces that keep us tied to the way we’ve always done things so that we can achieve improvement in health at scale. This improvement can be achieved community-by-community, person-by-person until we have reached 100 Million Healthier lives.
I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to VAN’s “Celebrate Spring!” event on May 3 at the Swedish Institute. This annual event has a new look and feel this year at a different venue, and an exciting program. Hear two Minnesota authors on aging, enjoy gourmet snacks, and participate in our silent auction. Hope to see you there!
