ALVA is a leadership development program for 50+ adults who are interested in providing leadership for the common good. ALVA will help you discover your unique path to leadership and develop the skills you need to be successful.

VAN is pleased to announce that it will offer the 2010–2011 course in six locations around the state—Century College in White Bear Lake, Inver Hills Community College in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota State University, Mankato, North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Center, Riverland Community College in south eastern Minnesota, and St. Cloud Technical & Community College—starting Friday, October 8, 2010. Classes meet one Friday a month from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

This life-changing course will help you overcome challenges of leadership in later life and find new ways to use your leadership skills.

  • (Re) Discover your lifework
  • Understand the opportunities and barriers of leadership in later life
  • Plan and implement a civic leadership project
  • Build an ongoing network for sharing ideas, knowledge, and resources

Course cost is $750. Late registration fee of $50 for registration after September 24.

Limited scholarships are available [ALVA Scholarship Application 10_11]. Scholarship deadline August 16 for notification by August 24 and September 13 for notification by September 17.

Colleges and the Vital Aging Network will award ALVA Leadership Development Program Certificates at the conclusion of the course.

ALVA Informational Forums

ALVA Informational Forums will be held at some of the locations where the 2010-2011 course is offered. If you would like to learn more about ALVA, we encourage you to attend one of these informational meetings. The VAN August Forum will also feature the ALVA program.
